Your Shoulder Pain Could Be an Injury

Everyone in San Jose suffers from the occasional ache and pain in their neck, shoulder, and back area. But when your discomfort becomes something that won’t go away or gets worse with time, you may start to wonder if something more serious is going on.  Perhaps you have a shoulder injury that you don’t know about.

Causes of Shoulder Pain

The following are some common causes of shoulder pain that are injury-induced:

Bursae are small sacs that help rotator cuff tendons move freely. Overuse of the shoulder can cause bursae to become inflamed. This is a condition known as bursitis. In addition to pain, you may experience stiffness, and tenderness in the shoulder.

Rotator Cuff Tears
The rotator cuff which surrounds the shoulder joint is made up of muscles and tendons. Repeated overhead motions, such as throwing a ball, can cause you to tear your rotator cuff.

If you have this condition, you will experience some pain, and it’ll worsen during certain activities.

Tendon Tear
The tendons for your biceps are located in the shoulder. Overuse of your muscles can tear a tendon. The most common symptom of this condition is weakness and pain. Tendon tears can be minor, and heal on their own, while severe cases will require surgery.
